Belgian Grand Prix™ Travel Packages
It’s the longest circuit in Formula One, a “driver’s track” known for its complex corners and mix of wet and dry conditions. It covers such a large area, in fact, that some parts can be rainy while others stay fine.
As Romain Grosjean puts it, “It’s just a great track. There are very high-speed corners and there are a lot of turns, different types, some high speed, some low – just a good variety overall. It gives you a good feeling to drive.” Yet the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is also a tricky place to travel to, being in a small town that lies 40-60 minutes from the closest major towns and cities. Thankfully, GP Traveller has the knowledge to steer you in the right direction - so read on for our advice on the best travel, accommodation, grandstands and more. |
Fully inclusive packages with transfers
One unforgettable F1 experience. One complete package.
Our fully inclusive Grand Prix packages are designed to give you a hassle free Grand Prix experience without the limitations of travelling with a large group tour operator.
With Altitude Luxury Travel, there isn’t the stress of arranging everything yourself. Your travel manager arranges everything. You can simply enjoy the thrill and atmosphere of Formula One™.
Everything you want from an incredible race weekend is included in our ATOL-protected packages. And if you want to add extra nights or additional activities, we’ll tailor a package just for you.
We feel it is very important that our Grand Prix™ packages are fully inclusive of everything you need for an incredible race weekend.
If you choose to travel to Belgium with Altitude Luxury Travel, it's likely that you'll share a few things in common with our regular guests who travel with us to Grand Prix around the world year on year. You'll probably want a package that includes:
• All the essential inclusions like transport, accommodation and tickets
• Attention to detail & professional service so you can simply enjoy your weekend at the Grand Prix
• Value for money with no hidden extras or exclusions
If we can't deliver these three simple things we've not done our job. Knowing all the potential pitfalls of cutting back on service and inclusions we'd rather kindly decline business than risk jeopardising your trip.
You may be booking this trip as a gift for a friend or family member and just the thought of organising this trip is overwhelming. If this sounds familiar please just pick up the phone and call us on 0114 345 1977 and we can talk you through all the different options.
Here's what we include as standard
Travel from the UK to Dusseldorf by air. You may think this would be an essential inclusion but we have seen trips that don’t include this key element. If you'd prefer to travel by rail please ask for a tailor-made quotation.
Airport transfers abroad are always included and you will never be expected to make your own way from the airport to hotel (or vice versa). This means you won’t be left queuing for a taxi at the airport or put at risk of paying over the odds with an unknown local operator.
Accommodation. We try to use the same hotels year on year based on guest feedback, hotel location, price and our own personal experiences. If we wouldn’t stay in a hotel ourselves we certainly won’t offer it to our guests.
Tickets. We'll always give you a price including grandstand tickets or hospitality for both Saturday and Sunday. As you're going to Belgium on Grand Prix weekend you'll probably want race tickets to be included. We feel it can be confusing and unhelpful if tickets aren’t included as standard. If you'd like to go to the circuit on Friday as well we can tailor the trip to include an extra nights accommodation.
Circuit Transfers. We include shared chauffeur driven transfers from your hotel to and from the circuit using Mercedes Benz people carriers. We operate a transfer on Saturday and Sunday morning to take you to the circuit, and return transfers after the final on track action has finished.

Our travel tips on the best ways to get to Spa for the Grand Prix
You can drive, fly or take the train to the Belgian Grand Prix.
Your best option for flexibility and convenience is to drive. If you don’t mind driving from the UK, take the Euro Tunnel and stay in one of the many towns, cities and villages within an hour of the circuit. There are three sizable cities within striking distance of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps: Maastricht in Holland, Aachen in Germany, and Liège in Belgium.
If you don’t fancy the drive from the UK, take a flight to Cologne or Dusseldorf in Germany, Brussels in Belgium, or Eindhoven in Holland. You can fly direct to all these cities from UK airports, and airfares are usually reasonable.
From the airport you can hire a car, or take a train, to make the rest of your journey - booking in advance is strongly recommended.
Eurostar runs directly from London St Pancras to Brussels Midi in just 2 hours. You can also travel via Brussels to any Belgian station for a slightly higher fare. This will allow you to continue your onward travel in Belgium for up to 24 hours after your Eurostar train arrives in Brussels.
Where to stay at the Belgian Grand Prix
There are a few hotels in Spa. There’s even one at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps... but good luck getting a room there!
We’ve found that a good option is to stay in one of the nearby cities. Namely Maastricht in Holland, Aachen in Germany and Liège in Belgium. They offer a fairly limited choice of small independent hotels, plus mid-range chains like Crowne Plaza and Novotel.
Aachen is arguably the best base for a weekend at the Belgium Grand Prix if you’re reliant on public transport.
You could also stay in one of the many smaller towns and villages within an hour’s drive of the circuit.
There are also holiday parks nearby, which are especially good for families.
Staying in Brussels is another popular option, but it’s a bit like staying in London for the British Grand Prix - a great city with lots of good hotels, but not very convenient for getting to the circuit! Expect to get back to your hotel pretty late in the evening.

Compare the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps’ grandstands and pick the perfect seats.
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is regarded by many as the best track on the Formula One calendar. The forest hills that surround the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps make for a scenic race with its own micro-climate, where the weather is highly changeable. It’s common for parts of the track to be wet and slippery while other parts are under sunny blue skies.
Of course, it’s impossible to know which grandstands will get the good weather - but we can tell you about the kind of action you’re likely to see from each and help you choose the right tickets.
Tickets for the Belgium Grand Prix are split into three tiers: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Here’s our rundown.

Tickets for the Belgium Grand Prix are split into three tiers: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Here’s our rundown.
The Belgian Grand Prix Gold grandstands are all clustered around the circuit’s first sector from the final corner of the lap through to Les Combes (including the starting grid too). They’re highly recommend for the best views over some of the most famous sections of circuit in motor racing. Most Gold Grandstands are also covered - and in Spa the chance of rain is high.
Gold grandstands
Gold 1 and Gold 9 are great if you like having a view of the team garages, the pre race build-up and the chequered flag. Before the race you’ll seen engineers making final preparations and the drivers coming and going on the grid. You’re unlikely to see much wheel to wheel action though, as these stands aren’t in the breaking zones.

Gold 7 and Gold 8 are at La Source, a right-hand hairpin and the first corner of the lap. This tight corner demands drivers hit the brakes hard, and that means you’re likely to see them jostling for position and trying to overtake.

Gold 2, Gold 3, Gold 4 and Gold 10 are located after La Source heading into Eau Rouge, a sweeping uphill corner often called the most thrilling section of circuit in Formula One and a corner Lewis Hamilton says is “always the most exciting part of the circuit”. Drivers must flick left, then right, then straight-line it out at thrilling speed.

Bronze viewing (general admission)
If you’re on a budget, the Belgian Grand Prix offers Bronze general admission in the countryside sections of the circuit. You can take your own folding chairs and blankets, but be aware that the ground can be rough and bumpy in places - and again, there’s no shelter from the rain. You should also be prepared for a long walk from the circuit entrance to some of the viewing banks.

Getting around during the Belgian Grand Prix
Driving, helicopter, shuttle buses and public transport all offer something during Grand Prix weekend.
Getting around by car
Having a car gives you maximum flexibility. You can buy a parking permit with your Grand Prix tickets. It’s also worth considering a hospitality package, as they often include a pass for the VIP express road in and out of the circuit - which can save a lot of time.
Getting to Spa by helicopter
Evenementciel offers a helicopter shuttle service from Maastricht, Bruxelles, Liège, Cologne, Paris and Charleroi Airports. But remember - helicopter travel is weather dependent, and Spa-Francorchamps is known for its changeable conditions.
Sunday-only shuttle buses
A Grand Prix shuttle bus runs from Maastricht in Holland, Aachen in Germany and Liège in Belgium. However, at time of writing this is only available to Sunday ticket holders (weekend ticket holders do not qualify for the Sunday). This is obviously a major issue if you want to go to the circuit on Friday and Saturday.
Getting to the circuit by public transport
If you prefer to do the whole journey by public transport, the best option is a train into Spa-Géronstère or Verviers, then a transfer to the circuit. Trains run from most major cities around Belgium, but we’ve found it’s best to make Aachen your base because of the hourly service to Verviers. It takes 31 minutes and costs €7.30 each way. A regular shuttle bus runs between Verviers train station and the La Source entrance of the circuit over Grand Prix weekend, and you can pay on the day.

Get the most out of your Belgian GP travel with these unmissable add-on destinations.
The Belgium Grand Prix usually falls on the August Bank Holiday weekend in the UK. So it can be a good opportunity to grab a few extra days away. Great nearby cities to visit include:
Maastricht, Netherlands - This beautiful medieval city has over 1,500 national heritage buildings and is a great destination for culture, shopping and nightlife.
Cologne, Germany - The modern and gothic combine on the Rhine, with great food and drink and a truly stunning cathedral that is Germany’s most visited attraction.
Brussels, Belgium - Amazing beer, chocolates, shopping and culture. You can’t really go wrong.
Make it an F1 double header in Italy
The Italian Grand Prix is usually held on the first weekend in September, right after Spa. So why not consider a double header and explore Europe while you’re at it? If you’re driving or taking the train, Lucerne in Switzerland is an ideal stopover. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Lucerne is known for its medieval architecture and the crystal clear Lake Lucerne. It’s a great place for hiking, sightseeing and culture.

When to book your F1 Belgian Grand Prix trip
The date of the Belgian Grand Prix is usually confirmed by November - that’s about 9 months in advance. Plenty of time to arrange your trip and save by booking early.
Lower-priced “early bird” tickets usually go on sale between September and November - pretty much immediately after the previous Belgian Grand Prix has ended. The early bird booking period usually ends around January. By this time, some grandstands have usually sold out.
Grandstand seats at Spa have started to sell out faster since the rise of Dutch F1 driver Max Verstappen. Fans flood across the border to see their hero, in the absence of a Grand Prix on Dutch soil. Booking your race tickets early also allows you to confirm your travel arrangements early, which is a good way to save money.
